PiHole Sudden Stop

David Chung at

PiHole suddenly started dropping external connections and so without knowing about it, my devices started using the secondary DNS.

I was wondering why name resolution seemed a little slower than usual on my network.

I saw that PiHole was running and it was taking name service requests locally so my first thought was I had firewall issues and spent way too much time trying to figure out why these requests aren't going through!

It turns out PiHole for some reason stopped listening to the network interface despite what its UI was stating. Re-saving my DNS settings on PiHole fixed the issue!

So lesson learned: after a PiHole update, I'll need to make a test name service request to ensure it's actually responding. If not, then try re-saving my DNS settings.
