Clarification on speed limit for Honolulu-bound Likelike Highway prior to School Street

I was driving through this intersection following the flow of traffic, which exceeded the 11 mph threshold for citation had the speed limit really been 25 mph.


I freaked out a bit as I saw that 25 mph speed limit sign leading up to that intersection followed by confusion as I saw the 35 mph speed limit sign immediately after.


I don't drive often so was unaware the city clarified this.


However, I think they should just keep the signs at 35 mph mauka-bound while keeping it at 25 mph makai-bound. That is, in the posted image, the left signs should both be 25 mph (so drivers are given ample time to slow down with the reduced speed limit) and the right side 35 mph to prevent confusion (with the elevated speed limit).
