Happy to say that Guix environment containers have landed in the master branch, and will be available in the upcoming 0.9 release!

Here's how I built the Guile master branch, soon to be released as Guile 2.1:
guix environment --container guile-next -- sh -c "./autogen.sh && ./configure && make -j4"
guix environment --container guile-next -- sh -c "./autogen.sh && ./configure && make -j4"
