During lunch today I hung out in the park in front of the building at work (the front doors open onto the park.) A local animal shelter had a van with cats for adoption.
I already have 2 cats (I got 2 so that they could keep each other company while I was at work) so I had no plans to adopt any but I still visited.
One was very hyperactive. Another was totally passed out. Completely unconscious. Another was being cool and sitting on a blanket watching people. I don't recall the rest.
I looked at the unconscious cat for a bit and began to wonder if it was even alive. I couldn't see any movement from breathing. The cat's head was near the cage door so I stuck my finger through the cage door and touched some of the hairs that were sticking out of one of its ears.
It made a small half meow sound and moved around a little, as if to say "I'm sleeping. Go away."
But at least I know it was alive.
