Opus 1.2

Listening to the audio samples encoded by the recently-released Opus version 1.2. Try clicking on the MP3 at 32kb/s for comparison then switch back to Opus. Seems quite amazing what can be done with Opus at a measly 32 kb/s.

Charles Stanhope likes this.

Rather than quantizing to the closest value, the 1.2 encoder will now (only at higher complexity settings) actually try the two closest values and pick whichever minimizes distortion. It's not a huge gain, but when you add many of those, they add up to a significant improvement.

Nice.
