I saw this headline from Gizmodo saying "Ebooks Purchased From Microsoft Will Be Deleted This Month Because You Don't Really Own Anything Anymore."

My first thought was "Anymore?! If they had DRM the title should really be "...because you never owned them in the first place."

@jxself@identi.ca I think they meant the trend of going to licensing vs purchasing in recent years as opposed to this specific case. DRM free doesn't equate to owned exactly on a 1-1 basis. I have three albums from magnatune I paid for before the switch to monthly that as I recall I don't own, but rather license under whichever cc license they use. DRM just allows for draconian enforcement, and passing off license conflicts to the end user rather than between publisher and distributor
