@sazius I think you're right... though people used to read as much during extended break times it was rare to do it every time there was a 10 second break. That then leads to checking messages frequently, and then the expectation that everyone checks and responds to messages frequently.

That slippery slope is something that I've been caught on so I've become known as "bad at responding" due to being one of the few in my social circle that make a conscious choice to leave phones away from me and message during designated times.
