yeah I would be suspicous enough about mobile phones - a very likely culprit.


if possible:


demand that you have FULL control of that phone or any other device!


keep a very close eye on any "upstreams"


until having full control of ones own devices is easier for the user DON'T BUY (teach any scammy companies a lesson!), keep things simple and watch for suspicious signs like reduced transfer speeds and unexplained connectivity problems that might try to force you to use less secure methods. (and if stuck with such choices take other precautions like restricting coverage)


in general beware of upstreams on ANYTHING - keep those to a minimum and monitor any that are needed as much as you can.


it is pretty obvious that most of this worry has absolutely nothing to do with national security and everything to do with scammers and corruption (so if anything the spying is a THREAT to national security). don't EVER give any scammers what they want.



right now the elephant in the room is still web browsers.

that shows that a monopoly is a very bad thing.
