Here comes the smoothest rephrasing of “Worse is Better“(1) I have ever seen:

Musk (who isn't so much Musk as him plus the team he gathered around him – but he is still the person who gathered the team and fronts it) is not only a technophile madman (this is an endearing title), he is also a smooth-talking politician. Check this out:

Notice how he leaves out “and we only had one death”. Leave that as an excercise to the reader.

Btw, I'm surprised to hear the numbers increased. Would love to see some analysis on that.

1) (No, Musk's statement is not exactly WiB. WiB says focus on ease (cost) of implementation rather than ease of use, even though ease of use has a productivity leverage that makes every hour spent on improving it immensely valuable in the economy as a whole … but Release Early Release Often goes pretty much hand in hand with this, and Gabriel's meme is a few years older(2) than Raymond's, so it has more mythological and memetical weight.)

(2) Only a few though! I was surprised to learn that Worse is Better was circulated in the early 90s, not in the early-to-mid-80s. I always thought it was about as old as GNU, or maybe even a bit older.
