I'm sure many people here will object to movies as one of issues that matter. But your concept of them as a signal makes sense.

They are also a signal but I meant https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/signal#Adjective standing above others (together with pharma) as the industries even most reformers genuflect to as being well served by copyright and patents respectively.

I'm not sure why anyone here would object to movies being an issue that matters though. Or does someone here support DRM? :-/

I'm referring to e.g. rms's stance that entertainment doesn't need freedom, and culture is not as important as code. I don't believe he is alone.

And even if we think culture and free culture matters, and movies are culture, as coders (and there are many coders here) we are prone to thinking code is the most important thing in the world.
