Did a terrible job...

...microbloggin on the Pump at LGM this week. Due solely to the difficulty of connecting accounts. Ultimately, I decided that raising the profile of LGM and free software stuff on the larger but closed Twitter network took precedence over filling in followers on the federated platform, 100% of whom (I'm confident) are already The Choir on the social issues of software freedom and are familiar with the great community of free software creative-graphics tools like Inkscape, GIMP, Blender, Scribus, Darktable, et al.

One of the things that sprang from 1-on-1 conversations, including tonight, was what a huge amount of work still needs to be done reaching out to artists and designers who don't know what they're missing and don't realize that the libre graphics community is more aligned with their needs than proprietary app vendors are. I made a long list of things I need to do better this coming year before the next LGM (encourage LGM speakers to submit talks to other conferences, write more about progress in the open font movement, etc); one of those things is to talk to people who are already in the creative arts but don't realize that there is a hyper-motivated community of artistic professionals who also dedicate their time to sharing and improving the software tools they all rely on.

Nevertheless, I do still need to help spread the news within this community as well. I'll do some of that via LWN; perhaps more by aggregating updates from Twitter someplace more permanent. Hopefully by helping to make a more accessible archive of what was said and done this week. In the meantime, though, please accept my apologies as well as this image from my first slide deck.
