Johnson throwing a public tantrum   is to try to goad the opposition into a premature no confidence vote.
Ironically, by not calling a vote of no confidence (VoNC), Johnson is going to get bolder and more extreme in his actions, and I'm not sure the damage he'll cause will be repairable.
