[Blog] Scared of Search

I'd like to thank Google for making me afraid to do a search on something that I'm mildly curious about.

"Hey, we noticed you looked up SNK games. HERE'S 1500 NEWS ITEMS ABOUT UPCOMING PLAYMORE SNK RELEASES BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHOWN INTEREST! ARE YOU NOT PLEASED?"

"Hey we noticed you searched about Twitter's API. HERE IS THE CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE RELATED TO TWITTER! ARE YOU NOT PLEASED?"

Argh!

Scared of Google, I'd say. And with good reason.

But that can be fixed =)

My most frequent answer to that keeps coming back to being one good EMP blast in the low-orbit to suborbital position over the relevant computing vendor. We (the United States of America, that is) need to start planting "seed corn" outside North America instead of clustering so much talent in easily targeted spots like Silicon Valley. The UK's idea of the Silicon Roundabout is just one step forward in planting such seed corn.
