Follow a Pump.io and Diaspora* Contact

Can you follow a user on the Pump.io network without having a Pump.io account yourself. I have tried adding using the profile URL and the profile webfinger address and neither worked. I also tried via the Pump.io site using the Follow button and using my Friendica webfinger address, that didn't work either.

The same applies to Diaspora*, although I haven't tried yet, is it possible to follow a Diaspora* user?
