After a few years of contemplation I've decided to list Free Software Melbourne on Meetup.com. The main disadvantage is that Meetup is a centralised web service where our data lives on someone else's computer. (There's also a fee but that's secondary.) The big advantage is that it's immensely popular, so there's a good chance of attracting new members.

To teach more people about free software we need to be visible in the places they're hanging out. We'll trial it for 6 months and see how it goes. We'll also be discouraging registration or RSVPs on Meetup and instead directing people to our existing website which won't link back to Meetup.
