My experience has been similar. My phone came with Firefox OS 1.0, which I updated to 1.1 using the ZTE provided firmware image. I haven't been able to update to anything newer.
Firefox OS still seems promising to me, but 1.1 certainly isn't mature, and the device seems way too under-powered. I still use it as my main phone, but it's a frustrating experience.
