- I went looking for a standard way for a web application to communicate its preferred (virtual) hostname and port to its web or application server.
That doesn't seem to exist, at least not for nginx. I am now going down the rabbit hole of looking at PAAS implementations, all of which are likely to be overkill for managing a simple VPS :/.
