I had very good results with Debian on the 701, but since I can live with a limited featureset, Android 4.0 works *really* well as well.

I don't trust them in any fundamental way,let's say I just don't see the need to insinuate bad intentions when they move towards open source

The only technically similar equivalent would be the JVM, and I personally just think .NET is a nicer alternative (and C# a nicer language)
