I think it might have something due to the Russian conscripts getting captured, getting spoken to sternly by the Ukrainians, and then being allowed to call their parents. This isn't looking very much like the Afghanistan situation and more like a bad Batwoman/Arrowverse cross-over plot.
Well, I would expect Ukrainian treatment of Russian soldiers to get less gentle as the Russian attacks get more brutal and more frequent, which, sadly, is happening on both counts.
If Russia really pursues this all the way to installing a puppet government, I think it *may* start to look a lot like Afghanistan :-(, in terms of persistent guerilla warfare against the occupying force and their local allies.
