There is certainly an analogy with people in organizations hidden in there. And maybe other systems that have a homeostasis that can be broken. Cancer. "I'm a cell. I multiply."
Agh, "Why is this complicated" reminds me of "Why are you making this so complicated", a question I've had asked of me when I was trying to define scope.
