RT @wiredferret My BMI* and history of depression will cost me $40/mo in extra life insurance costs. Yet another little freelancer ouch.
*BMI rant here
Also, super that I get penalized for treating my mental health issues instead of ignoring them.

RT @ncoghlan_dev Important point to remember as an open source contributor: it's not your responsibility to help others work around broken corporate cultures
Yes, organisations woefully underinvest in sustaining engineering. Donating your time to mitigating their mistake perpetuates the problem :(
It's natural to ask peers to help us for free, rather than learning to make a compelling business case, but the latter is more sustainable.

In college I dated a guy whose family celebrated Christmas so I started learning important Christmas taboos, e.g., presents must be wrapped

Yeah, all of these insights are of course specific to a culture and subculture, possibly down to the family level.
I'm sure there must be people in the US who get visits by Santa on Christmas Eve around 4pm, feed him porridge and glögg, and then proceed to open those gifts, just like in e.g. Sweden.
But that just reinforces the idea that traditions are full of codes and rituals that you cannot fully get an insight into unless you have the chance to participate.
