I really appreciate your sharing your thoughts about a non-Hindu having a Ganesha statue on her desk. A co-worker some years ago allowed several of us to pick a Ganesha statue for each of our desks upon his return from India. I picked a musician Ganesha statue and smile at this statue every once in a while, but will think more about how to be respectful. I only know a little more about Hinduism than I've picked up from mainstream culture (a few art exhibits and lectures). I'm not sure what to do if I don't think I'm a good caretaker; that co-worker is long gone.
