Tree grafts and tree shapes
Looking up some non-medically terrifying images of grafts for a talk on Guix I'm giving on Friday, and @Bassam Kurdali suggested tree grafts, which lead me to thie crazy-ass article on tree shaping. So coooool!

I have the "Arborsculpture" book! It's really good. On a related note, I've also been reading up on Niwaki, to reshape some of the older trees in my yard into less random shapes.
It's really thought-provoking; for some reason, people in the US (and evidently in other Western countries) get a fear of pruning or cutting trees ingrained in them somehow. Like, fear that it hurts the plant. I even see this in Master Gardeners; members of the public think that cutting or tying back tree branches is detrimental to the health of the tree....
