So one consequence of purchasing economy airfare (also had no choice since it was a small, single-class regional flight), is that all the "perks" like seat selection (!) are not refundable if you have to change flights.
However, the optimist in me sees this as purchased bonus reward points.
Delta says their are not refundable, unless you buy the more expensive refundable ticket, but that just means if you do cancel it you're given a credit of the same amount to use on future flights instead of a refund back to the original payment method.
