I’m questioning if the United States of America should exist or not heading toward the middle of the of the century. I find David French’s points persuasive that a crack-up is increasingly likely whether through violence or otherwise.
In this context, I'm not sure what "should" would mean. The people will exist, the geographic territory will exist, the military hardware will exist, etc. I would like the country itself to still exist; that's a literally conservative position, I guess. Most revolutions end badly. Most political break-ups do as well, though perhaps less often and less severely.
