MediaGoblins!

Laura Arjona Reina at

I'm very happy I've been able to setup two instances of GNU MediaGoblin in my home server!

One of them, media.larjona.net, is public, with some stuff of myself and my family (proud of them!). I'll upload more and more files soon.

The other one is in a different URL and port, with SSL (selfsigned, but no problem since it's private) and protected with nginx authentication. So only our family can access to share family photos/videos.

I hope they find it easy to use and we share photos/videos more often like this.

I'm happy that the community helped me with the few doubts I had (hey! Deploying GMG is not that hard!). And happy that my parents will have the interface in Spanish #oleole!

I have a pending blogpost about the internals of these selfhosting steps but I wanted to share this joy here right now!

so does the nginx authentication happen via password or some other mechanism on the private one?

@judahsshadow: I've used passwords, with the auth_basic module of nginx and the htpasswd utility from Apache to encrypt the password file.

I've followed this guide: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-http-authentication-with-nginx-on-ubuntu-12-10

ah cool, I shall use that so the next family reunion doesn't have to use some sort of proprietary photo sharing service
