@aslamK you're probably right, I have no knowledge of how those wounds have healed in 40+ years, or if they haven't at all. I only used East Pakistan as a segue from Pakistan, but I'll not repeat on assumption it is totally offensive to some Bangladeshis.

Also, Bangladesh is culturally (probably ethnically as well) different from Pakistan. Other than being predominantly Muslim, the two populations have little in common. Bangldeshis have more in common with the predominantly Hindu (West) Bengalis in India than they do with Pakistanis -- the names in the story are indistinguishable from Indian Bengali names.
