I was going to ask if there are any managed Ethernet switches that work with free software (e.g., OpenWrt or the like), but (a) it seems like there definitely aren't, and (b) I assume this is what the LinuxCon folks are always talking about when they complain that "the networking industry" doesn't get open source.

I guess I've just snuck over the boundary between "consumer network hardware" and "networking industry." And this was just the move from an 8-port to a 16-port switch, which is apparently a massive step up.

And, finally, I am only interested in 16-port switches because I try and keep as many devices on my network wired as I can. WiFi bandwidth is finite, and wireless security << wired security. Who would've guessed that that made me some sort of fringe/elist?
