When I inherited a microscope that came with an USB eyepiece, I didn't even dream of it working on Linux. But it did at first attempt. Dmesg listed it, VLC listed it, I captured the video stream and made a screenshot. I found this old Toshiba laptop from a pre-USB era and with no hard disk, in a trash container.
