It has plenty of traction, but you need to follow new people, not dead accounts ;)
Also, don't limit yourself to following users of identi.ca, you can follow users from any Pump server.

@slurry I think it wouldn't be too hard, because !emacs includes a #xml parser http://ur1.ca/2n12r . You could even propose it for emacs 24.
