Ah, don't get me wrong: I really love the concept of pump.io, but it seem(s/ed) a bit unfished technically and at least in my subcultural circles it even lost users compared to the old StatusNet-based identi.ca

It has plenty of traction, but you need to follow new people, not dead accounts ;)
Also, don't limit yourself to following users of identi.ca, you can follow users from any Pump server.
