For ~$1/month, you can get up to daily map updates to OsmAnd. Offline maps without any manual updating on your part!
Those subscription fees can either all go to OsmAnd (default), or you can configure 50% to go to OpenStreetMap. You can pick a region in OpenStreetMap and donations will be sent to the editors in that region via BitCoin.

Your old avatar was still hosted at status.net (apparently you've never updated it in the "Pump era"), which has now expired (with good reason).

I've been heavily editing in Japan for years and never heard of this. Zero. Who's getting money? Sounds kinda weird.
