I've set up UTF-8 locales in `dpkg-reconfigure locales` and Polish characters work well... so French should, too. !debian

VP8 isn't worse than MP4; the only problem is lack of hardware decoders.

If we're talking about music: mpd+ncmpcpp are much better that VLC of MPlayer for listening to music.

Converting between lossy formats is VERY BAD! Download FLACs instead. ;)
