Why aren't we hearing more comparisons to Russia -- excuse me, the Soviet Union, cough cough -- in Afghanistan in the 1980s? That too was a regular army facing guerilla resistance, and eventually the army left, just as America left Vietnam.
I think it might have something due to the Russian conscripts getting captured, getting spoken to sternly by the Ukrainians, and then being allowed to call their parents. This isn't looking very much like the Afghanistan situation and more like a bad Batwoman/Arrowverse cross-over plot.
