Parece ser, que de continuar sin liberar el código, telegram viola la licencia GPL de su cliente. Recordemos que, de la parte del servidor, hay que hacer un acto de fe para creerse lo que nos cuentan pues es de código cerrado.
Por una parte, están los que creen que se está demorando la publicación del código debido a la inminente implantación de las llamadas de audio/video. Otros, simplemente creen que es una vulneración de la licencia.

Si se conecta a un silo amurallado, me da igual lo abierto que sea xD
Yo acepté usar el cliente para escritorio porque era de código abierto, a pesar de que sabía que el servidor no lo es, para estar en contacto con un grupo de gente con la que necesito contactar (al menos durante un tiempo) y se decidió por mayoría usar Telegram (Kontalk aún no tenía los grupos).
Estaré atento a su evolución, y llegado el caso, o proponer usar Kontalk o abandonar el grupo y la prisión de Telegram.
Para mi el problema de usar el ejemplo que se nombra, Kontalk, es que voy a estar en un completo desierto. Si, uso Telegram, al menos ahi tengo al grupo de trabajo y algun familiar pero convence al resto de usar Kontalk y verás donde me mandan.
Por Whatsapp si no paso ni trago.
Mi filosofía es más simple que el mecanismo de un chupete: Yo uso Jabber/XMPP. A quien le interese, ahí me tiene xD
Para todo lo demás, llamada estándar de teléfono, SMS estándar, o e-mail estándar =)

Kontalk: Christmas gift?

I'm anxiously expecting for the 4.0.0 version of Kontalk, which will provide group chats, a long awaited feature. I've been monitoring the pending issues for 4.0.0 version for over a month. First, release date was set by the end of October (I think) and later rescheduled for today. Today I checked and it's rescheduled for release on December 26th. Hope we all can have this Christmas gift ;-)
Thank you very much to everyone involved in the development of Kontalk! I just wanted to express my excitement and gratitude.
PS: Any other way to donate without using Paypal (I don't have an account and I don't want to have one) or Bitcoin (I don't know how to use it and I don't trust it)?

Third release candidate for the new XMPP version. Published also on Google Play and on F-Droid (basic flavor). This is a bugfix-only release, but two new languages were added: Japanese and Serbian.
Fixes:

#383, #389, #394, #396, #397: improvements to battery life
