The #Cyanogenmod devs are doing silly things now. You can't use #WhisperPush without the Play Store installed, and yet WhisperPush comes with the default CM install.
A prime reason to use Cyanogenmod is to get rid of dependence on Google. Users such as myself don't have GApps + Play Store on our phones and we're rather happy about that.
Come on, guys, I know you like your own product, but could you avoid making obvious mistakes like this? None of us are going to rush to install the Play Store just to use WhisperPush if we didn't have it installed already, so you're just looking bad for nothing here.

Show all 10 repliesThere is an unrelated feature called "push" for email on cellphones. It has to do with how the phone gets email from the server. Traditionally, email clients pull email from the server, which is said to be slow because they only check for new email every few minutes or so.
how does that work ..
I'd like to be able to set up reminders for events and have it send them to the phone somehow (eg on the day so I don't miss an event I want to go to! - missing way too many interesting events simply because I saw something about them a week or so earlier but on the day totally forgot!)
can't use sms because of the cost (probably would only bother making it other people can use it too so in the context of my events website it could get very expensive very quickly!)
and I don't want an app to be running all the time to poll (would drain battery!)
2 minutes delay is ok for what I want .. but I don't think the email client on my phone fetches mail unless I actually open it!
Sounds like that depends on your phone. If you're using K-9 Mail for Android, you can choose how often it polls for new email. The more often it polls, the faster your battery drains.
Pumpio, tags and hashtag

Well, it's coming, it needs some more time: "ragtag.io (in development) will allow to see all the public objects in the Pump network tagged with a certain hashtag." As larjona@identi.ca says here
About "mentioning", you can add people to "to: ..." when posting, and they will get the post in their "messages tab", working more or less as a notification.
You can also add people in Pumpa by writing "@..."

That's why we told you that "tagging" people is simply adding them to the "To" field.
Also, Pumpa does that automatically by typing @whatevername in the message itself.
