I was typing the above commands from bad memory ... restart and service name reversed. :/

Actually I did stop/start rather than restart because in past restart didn't succeed with one of the services. Probably user error on my init scripts.

Also, all of the service restart stuff requires sudo.

I guess it'd be "hackily" but could be all wrapped up in a shell script that looks for available tags and proceeds from there, dumping output in a logfile if needed for debugging.

It may sound hacky to put commands like that in a shell script, but really, that's what the world is made of, and it works. The WMF uses a bunch of shell script wrappers around known tools (rsync etc) to deploy our code to hundreds of servers at least 3 times a week. Works well enough and the internals are easy to understand by everyone ("Oh, rsync, I know how to deal with that...").

re: shell script wrappers, that's one of the reasons for makefile support merge into mediagoblin, which is actually here / has happened.  It needs more testing though, we ran into problems and had to turn it off from the default, but I think those problems have been fixed.  The docs need to be set back, after some more testing!

It was a nice, smooth, uneventful upgrade. Thanks! The admin features are handy (I feel like I can offer my MG site to family and friends with more confidence now).
