I find it really annoying that all these libre and free software types use Google+, but not federated networks like Pump.IO, StatusNet, and friends.

I like to think we're missing the UX (Pump.IO's Web interface has a LOT of papercuts). What else are we missing?

I specifically left out Facebook and Twitter because those have strong network effects.

Google+ is just barely more active of a ghost town than when it started. At minimum, we should have something that libre and free software types want to use.

Perhaps your efforts to characterize them are not productive. Many people are selectively fans of open source. :-/

Well, viewing this post through AndStatus, there are no comments. Going to fmrl.me via my phone's browser, the login button doesn't work. And so forth...

I mostly think many developers (including myself) occasionally just want to use things rather than develop them.
