I love being able to repair/troubleshoot electronics. My time as a bench technician repairing VCRs and such has served me well.
Just figured out why my son's humidifier is busted. Unfortunately I got rid of all my components. A replacement relay was $5 with like $10 shipping... I'll just walk down to the drug store and buy another humidifier.
Even though that relay went out, I can highly recommend the Walgreens model 2055 cool mist humidifier. After having pulled it apart and gazed upon its guts, I can say it's a well crafted piece of equipment. I really think the relay popping on this one was a fluke.

Two questions- how to get from the message URL (e.g., https://identi.ca/bkuhn/comment/KTd7KvjJTYmYJqNoHJC-bQ) to the whole thread?
- I am following on three different sites (at least), and I have to constantly relogin (yes, with one identity), but I really think there should be some magic which would let me move among various pump.io sites seamlessly.

I think it comes down to a question of time. Do you want another social media platform? Does your daily schedule?

Richard Stallman, who called Hammond “a fine example of a socially responsible hacker”.
“People should not be allowed to enter others’ computers without permission; but when punishing someone for virtual trespassing, we ought to consider his motive,” wrote Stallman. “Those who trespass as part of a nonviolent protest, either physically or virtually, should not receive severe punishments. Those who act neither for gain nor for malice should not receive severe punishments. Imagine where our country would be if the civil rights and antiwar sit-ins had been punished by years in prison!”

I have grown to appreciate your #failure_friday series. When failures make the news, people may pay attention to discussions of ways to prevent a recurrence.

Many people seem to take pride in their software illiteracy. This just compounds the problem. These days software literacy is fundamental. I can't imagine anyone ever proudly proclaiming that they can't read, but they sure are proud of not understanding the basic problem solving skills needed to navigate modem life. Heavy sigh.Evan Prodromou, Evan Prodromou, James Robertson, netgeek and 2 others likes this.

Indeed. I look forward to the day when the Zoolander sequel has Derek Zoolander wanting to build the "Center for kids who can't codes".

Time for reflection
Trying to relax with a nice cup of green tea after lunch, I feel restless. There is about a dozen half-baked ideas for projects floating around my brain. Often, one thing comes to my mind and I start some research on the web. After an hour or two, I stop because other duties are calling (family, work, sleep, ...). The next block of free time arrives, another idea comes in my mind and another hour or so flies by doing some initial research. This cycle goes on and on and not much gets done. Guess it is time for reflection on my personal priorities!

That reminds me, @mcnalu, I seem to recall outsourcing my thinking to you some time ago and wondered if you can give me an update on how that's going? Have I come up with anything interesting or useful lately? Oops!Dvd Mrsdn at 2013-11-03T13:45:40Z

Point in case: I was getting ready to fire up emacs & org-mode to collect my thoughts and ... ended up compiling pumpa (which, by the way, was refreshingly straightforward).

One of the things that drew me to Identi.ca in the Status.net era was the ability to follow a topic or interest group and discover new individuals to follow through those avenues.
Groups: That is the feature I'd most like to see return to identi.ca in the pump.io era.
