Hi François, we met in Dunedin when you were still working on Persona. I think a decentralized replacement for Gravatar is a great idea, and I'm wondering if Libravatar could be continued in some form by the emerging ActivityPub fediverse? You mentioned in your swansong piece that running a node is a fairly trivial add-on to a webserver. Maybe one of the fediverse server apps could be convinced to bake it in, and maybe eventually it could be formalized as an extension of ActivityPub?
