Maybe that was from servers that are down or have SSL cert problems (there are a few like that ATM).

EDIT: the frontpage loaded, but trying to go to f-droid.org/news-and-reviews gives "Service Unavailable

I really didn't know that #Google publicly admitted that they are collecting locations of their (Android) users:
