@samwwwblack@identi.ca what does this mean for #Trisquel going forward? Or does #Trisquel already recompile all packages (I was under the impression they only recompiled ones they modified).
Probably nothing; in the comments section Shuttleworth (or someone claiming to be him) stated that Canonical had already given permission to hundreds of derivatives to use "Ubuntu" in their respins; I would hazard that Trisquel is one of them.
However, I would assume that the authorisation comes with strings attached, like they can't become commercial without getting a new authorisation; and as Matthew pointed out, derivatives of Ubuntu respins also would have to get Canonical's permission.

@freemor@identi.ca if it's GPLv2 or later software, then this must be within their rights or else Ubuntu would be guilty of Copyright infringement. Would it not?
