So what I'm reading is that due to Heartbleed I should change my password absolutely everywhere?

My understanding is that for any web service that you were relying on SSL to protect your password in transmit when logging in, insofar as the SSL encryption for that webservice relied on openssl and could have been totally compromised, then your password would not have been secure in transmit. The bug would allow an attack to decrypt openssl-encrypted traffic, AFAIK.Blaise Alleyne at 2014-04-08T15:10:14Z

Yes, someone may have dumped the certs of all OpenSSL 1.0.1 services you have used for the last two years, and MITM:ed you ever since.
from what I'm reading I'm appalled since out oh bounds hacks are so 1990s

Check here: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed and if it comes back green change your password.
None of these federated social networks will truly take off until there are webservices that assign accounts a weighted random number with a dollar sign in front of it.
