Diaspora* network is actually well active (specially in the french part where a very visible Pod is hosted by Framasoft.org aka framasphere.org) , and it was taking my attention these lasts months... (even trying to launch a pod here) ... I really like the mood and the people there, but hey, I need to come over here more often... ;)

Your concept of "nice" differs from mine a bit xD
Nice picture, though... as per the usual meaning of 'nice' =)
Well, last week it was +5C, overcast and no snow. It dark and grey all the time, really depressing. Now we have snow, -15C and clear skies => much nicer :-)sazius at 2014-01-14T14:39:16Z

I think theres a rule of databases: Every sufficiently advanced application using a non-relational DBMS will reinvent parts of a relational DBMS
Actually, I think that can be generalized: Every sufficiently advanced application using any kind of DBMS will reinvent parts of another. How many applications do you know which have some kind of "object parameters" table for extensibility data (i.e. a table in the form "foreign_id, key, value)?
If you use an RDBMS, you're liable to reinvent a small key value store somewhere inside. If you use a document store, you'll reinvent joins. If you're using an OODBMS, you'll reinvent search indexes.
I'm still a massive lover of OODBMS systems, but as always with the provisio that somebody needs to implement a good catalog/index system.Christopher Allan Webber, ntw0n, Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠), Matt Molyneaux likes this.

Show all 7 repliesI remember when D* switched from MongoDB to MySQL. It was a surprise (I, too, was reading about the wonders of NoSQL databases at that time) and there was not a lot of information about why they had switched.
When I first saw this article, I wondered whether PumpIO would have to switch to a RDBMS sometime. Glad someone else seems to be wondering the same. So, what pump.io does is it internally joins data from one document store and caches the result in another document store?I'm missing a discussion about triple stores in the article. Maybe there's something in the twitter discussion.I think theres a rule of databases: Every sufficiently advanced application using a non-relational DBMS will reinvent parts of a relational DBMS

necesito ideas. ¿alguna idea?
