Astronomy Picture of the Day for 2021-01-19 12:30:01.893035
Astronomy Picture of the Day (Unofficial) at 2021-01-19T18:30:02Z
Astronomy Picture of the Day
Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.
A Lunar Corona with Jupiter and Saturn
Image Credit & Copyright: Alessandra MasiExplanation: Why does a cloudy moon sometimes appear colorful? The effect, called a lunar corona, is created by the quantum mechanical diffraction of light around individual, similarly-sized water droplets in an intervening but mostly-transparent cloud. Since light of different colors has different wavelengths, each color diffracts differently. Lunar Coronae are one of the few quantum mechanical color effects that can be easily seen with the unaided eye. Solar coronae are also sometimes evident. The featured composite image was captured a few days before the close Great Conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter last month. In the foreground, the Italian village of Pieve di Cadore is visible in front of the Sfornioi Mountains.

ActivityPub is a W3C Recommendation! Yes! At last! Finally!
Let your social networks be free!
ActivityPub was basically 3 years of my life, and there were points were I wasn't sure if the time and energy I was spending on it was worth it. I'm sure it was today. Thank you everyone who participated in the standards process, have implemented... or are going to implement! You made it all worth it!

Dark Background and Light Text
Can you imagine what a web browser extension called "Dark Background and Light Text" does? =)
I'll tell you what it does: amazing things!
I've used similar extensions in the past to "counteract" the ultrawhiteness that plagues the WWW, but this one is much, much more capable. You can have per-site settings: disable for some sites, use a different "coloring method" (Stylesheet processor, simple CSS, invert) for others... and it's a WebExtension, so it can be used in Firefox 57+, and other browsers =)

Just installed and testing it: Good to save energy and there are some pages that look weird. l guess I'll give it a test time.
BTW, you can have per-site settings: disable for some sites, use a different "coloring method" for others...
So far it's worked really great for me =)
