Webb's Southern Ring Nebula
Image Credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, NIRCamExplanation: Cataloged as NGC 3132 the Southern Ring Nebula is a planetary nebula, the death shroud of a dying sun-like star some 2,500 light-years from Earth. Composed of gas and dust the stunning cosmic landscape is nearly half a light-year in diameter, explored in unprecedented detail by the James Webb Space Telescope. In this NIRCam image the bright star near center is a companion of the dying star. In mutual orbit, the star whose transformation has ejected the nebula's gas and dust shells over thousands of years is the fainter stellar partner. Evolving to become a white dwarf, the faint star appears along the diffraction spike extending toward the 8 o'clock position. This stellar pair's orbital motion has resulted the complex structures within the Southern Ring Nebula.

Okay, So Now What?

Well, I am stuck. Things are not proceeding as well as I might have otherwise have hoped. I spoke at a public event and the local daily newspaper acted as if I was an invisible ghost during the event. If there were any clearer sign that perhaps the race for city council is already lost on my part it would be that one of the writers at the daily newspaper basically acts like I do not exist. Since she covers that city council I am toast.
Of course, with the events in Tennessee that just happened I continue to be horrified at where my country is going. NPR had a scary interview about just how bad thing got here thanks to Facebook. I am still puzzled at the lady who decided the high speed crash was a great idea.
At times I am ready to drop out of the campaign. This area has many needs. Getting one more politician isn't one of them.
The knowledge ecology here is very, very bad. I've been looking at how to bootstrap a new local news operation with no money and keep winding up with few positive ways forward. The community may be beyond hope and lost to QAnon as well as its fellow travelers thanks to FB being the main means of conveying news lately.
There are ways around my conundrum, I think. If I wind up just producing a single leaf news sheet on legal size paper (otherwise known as a "penny press") it would be a start. Content from DVIDS about the Ohio National Guard, the Near Shore Marine Forecast, the Zone Forecast, and maybe a weather map would all be public domain and fill things out easily. I have been fussing over this stuff in this repo: https://code.launchpad.net/~skellat/+git/auto-newspaper
It is late and I really need to sleep. The gas company is coming for a meter inspection...

Orion Nebula: The Hubble View

Also known as M42, the nebula's glowing gas surrounds hot young stars at the edge of an immense interstellar molecular cloud only 1,500 light-years away. The Orion Nebula offers one of the best opportunities to study how stars are born partly because it is the nearest large star-forming region, but also because the nebula's energetic stars have blown away obscuring gas and dust clouds that would otherwise block our view - providing an intimate look at a range of ongoing stages of starbirth and evolution. The featured image of the Orion Nebula is among the sharpest ever, constructed using data from the Hubble Space Telescope. The entire Orion Nebula spans about 40 light years and is located in the same spiral arm of our Galaxy as the Sun.

La derecha hace un análisis más certero del tipo de personas que conforma la sociedad española y este acierto les permite ajustar su estrategia comunicativa para no solo movilizar a su electorado sino también reducir las posibilidades electorales de partidos antagonistas. Es decir, no solo estimula la participación de sus votantes sino que, a través de campañas de comunicación agresivas contra sus contrincantes, genera una clima de incertidumbre dirigido a desmovilizar al electorado de la izquierda política o, al menos, a evitar que voten por lo que consideran falazmente partidos radicales. Su análisis es más certero porque las políticas neoliberales de las últimas décadas han ayudado a moldear un perfil, adecuado al interés de la derecha política y económica, basado en el consumo, el hedonismo y la individualidad extrema. Todo esto en un contexto en el que las personas están preferentemente[pre]ocupadas por sobrevivir pagando facturas, hipotecas y múltiples deudas relacionadas con el consumo desaforado. Ademas del proceso de desideologización de la izquierda política, iniciado por gobiernos reaccionarios como el de Ronald Reagan y Margaret Thatcher, que sirvió para vaciar de contenido las propuestas de la izquierda, la cual no ha sabido reaccionar ni adaptarse a la nueva realidad, mientras que los planteamientos más conservadores y restrictivos en cuanto al ejercicio de derechos fundamentales se han imponiendo en una gran parte de la sociedad. No solo en la sociedad española sino en gran parte del mundo occidental.La ausencia de debates públicos sobre asuntos de interés común es un ejemplo de la pauperización del pensamiento y el diálogo político. No se plantean debates sobre problemas reales sino que se utilizan abstracciones dirigidas a estimular y movilizar al electorado. La reducción de la persona pensante, política y capacitada a simple votante le convierte en una mera observadora de la batalla dialéctica en la que el único impacto posible que tiene es la elección de un bando al que apoyar. En el caso de la Comunidad de Madrid, cuando Díaz Ayuso plantea la falsa dicotomía entre socialismo [comunismo] o libertad orienta la campaña política hacia posiciones exclusivamente ideológicas. Renuncia de forma expresa a hablar de lo cotidiano. Eleva el enfrentamiento al terreno de la abstracción donde la deformación y la alteración de los significados son más simples. Esto no implica que las políticas que defiende Díaz Ayuso no afecten a la cotidianeidad. Todo lo contrario. Hablar sobre socialismo o libertad oculta las políticas reales, es decir, aquellas que tienen un impacto directo en la sociedad. Así mientras confrontaba una y otra vez con el gobierno de coalición español, en plena gestión de la pandemia, el gobierno de Díaz Ayuso no era capaz de presentar unos nuevos presupuestos adecuados a la actual situación. Este fracaso de gestión no ha ocupado las primeras páginas de ningún periódico ni ha abierto los telediarios de televisiones públicas y privadas, más interesadas en el enfrentamiento político y en los golpes de efecto semanales de la administración madrileña. Esta simple maniobra comunicativa condena a la población madrileña a elegir qué bando quiere apoyar mientras que sus problemas se mantienen y agudizan.Emociones desatadas
