Thanks, wishlisted* both Annalee Newitz' Autonomous and Nicola Griffith's Slow River. Loved Martha Wells's All Systems Red, and Ann Leckie's Radch universe books.
* for bookmarks -- my TBR piles (physical and virtual bought books) are already ridiculously high. Physical is 1/10 men/women author ratio, apparently.Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.

Whenever I see a CEO who really, you know, looks the part, I wonder: What did the company give up to get that? #CentralCastingAJ Jordan, clacke@libranet.de ❌, Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.

I didn't know there's a .nyc TLD. Cool. :-)
Sounds llike good ideas, and it must be a relief for the package index people to get some rules to refer to.Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.

I didn't have an n900, but I did have an n800. It was fun while it lasted.Charles Stanhope at 2017-06-21T20:05:07Z

I still wish I had something like that
hadn't heard of the n900 but a friend had an n800.
Those were even available locally years ago
(and the n9 was too)
but not at a price I could afford
and none of those models look very likely to turn up second hand.
not surprisingly people who have them tend to want to keep them.

.@NYTimes front-page article refers to agencies' "inspector generals". I weep. This too is Trump's fault. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/us/politics/trump-white-house-government-ethics-lobbyists.htmlSumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.

Looking forward to seeing you at Penguicon! I'm planning to run a PowerPoint Improv (have done them 3 years and credited you); come play!Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.
I was just thinking, just now, of how I am looking forward to seeing you just about a week from now! :) I'm so glad that PowerPoint Improv is a source of pleasure for Penguicon and I'm happy to have been helpful in spreading the word about it.Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] at 2017-04-20T04:11:53Z

I would like the Democratic party to embrace its name and focus on voter registration and making it easier to vote. A lot of voters were effectively disenfranchised for this election after the Voting Rights was gutted.Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon], der.hans, Craig Maloney, Charles Stanhope and 1 others likes this.

Under the obvious privilege problems is another subtle problem. The idea that we've come so far since the Great Depression. FDR established the ideas of "fair" and "square deal" to mean: "Exactly what everyone needs to live a fulfilled life". It was a time when people were actually willing to consider that a simple, comfortable life was a huge privilege in itself.
I work for a charity and make a lot less than my peers. But I believe that I'm still unbelievably privileged. Indeed, I have the *luxury* to refuse to do any work that I morally oppose, which is almost every job in society, and still live a comfortable life. That's some serious privilege. I don't deserve this more than fair that I'm getting, but I must admit I'm quite addicted to it.

I like how it points out that it's not necessarily infinity in *all* directions (some performances are not compatible/desireable for a person). This also reminded me of someone who called me a fake because I remained civil during a heated discussion. Nope, I do not boil down to my spinal reflexes. A moment's anger is not a more authentic part of myself to perform than my upbringing and care for reasoned discourse.Sumana Harihareswara [on Mastodon] likes this.
