Six-day Match! Anonymous donor will match next 83 Supporter sign-ups!
Join before December 24th to have your Supporter donation count twice!
Not only have individuals been coming out to support us, as we have now reached 500 Supporters, but those with larger funds to share have as well. We have already raised two large match-grants to fill our donation progress bar from both ends! We're excited today to announce another anonymous match, for 83 new Supporters, who sign up in the next six days.
Please, if you have been thinking about Supporting Conservancy this holiday season, please do it by December 24th so we can meet this match. And, if you happen to have the funds to do a large match, please contact us by email if you'd like to make a big impact and match the next batch of Supporters!
Finally, if you've already become a Supporter, we thank you again. Now, we ask you do a bit more for us. We know it's a lot to ask, but we hope if you're already a Supporter, you'll reach out to your friends, family, and colleagues to tell them why you became a Supporter and encourage them to do the same.

Article on Saudi Arabia That Al Jazeera Blocked - from The Intercept
Freemor at 2015-12-18T20:11:57Z
This article was published by Al Jazeera America on December 3. Al Jazeera’s headquarters in Qatar appear to have blocked the article outside of the United States because it is critical of an ally of Qatar, so we are making it available here to international readers. Read our accompanying piece, Al Jazeera Blocks Anti-Saudi Arabia Article.

VCS friendly, patchable, document line wrapping
Christine Lemmer-Webber at 2015-12-17T16:39:11Z
A new blogpost: Having spent years being frustrated with plaintext conventions that are either just vcs/patch unfriendly or just annoying to view, I've finally come up with a good solution: each sentence on its own line, and wrap that line!

" In trying to please the plaintext gods, we have defiled their temple. Can we do better? "
And, as importantly, can we appease them to be safe from their wrath?
Their wrath would be the merge conflicts, I suppose. So it all goes hand in hand!Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) at 2015-12-18T13:56:51Z

I admit I was surprised at the conclusion. I thought it was going to be the opposite, indented at the beginning of each sentence. I think that reads better, and it creates fewer lines by virtue of wasting less whitespace.
But now I tried it out, and indented-first-line makes emacs indent the lines below. And when I tried dustycloud-style, I was surprised to see that emacs even did the right thing when autofilling the first line! When it inserts a new second line, it preserves the indentation of the existing second line. Awesome.
So the proposal makes perfect use of the existing tool. I will adopt this right away.Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) at 2015-12-18T14:03:45Z

Others have pointed out that "we should be changing the tools, not the way we write things", which is probably true. You can
wdiff, and you can usegit --word-diff, but applying patches is not as easy I think, and certainly version control systems usually don't have a good merge strategy. And what about those \n shifting around?I'm down with more tool-based strategies if they exist and work though. Refutations welcome! :)
(I do think that all formats do work within tools though. The fact that we're filling/wrapping paragraphs is to satisfy our existing plaintext editor tools...)

Things are happening for sure. Last week I was in San Francisco for the Social WG face to face meeting. It was the most successful meetings we've had so far in the group. I'm really optimistic.
More should be said, I should probably write up a post.
Jessica is anticipating server to server federation basics landing in mediagoblin probably by end of january.
Things are very actively happening, though I think we're doing a bad job of communicating it. I hope to make a blogpost this week giving an update.

Accepted into the Stripe Open Source Retreat 2016
Christine Lemmer-Webber at 2015-12-08T17:51:08Z
Proper blogpost coming up later today, but in the meanwhile, you can read Stripe's announcement: Open Source Retreat 2016 grantees. And guess who's in it?
That's right, Stripe's going to pay me to focus on MediaGoblin for the first few months of 2016, and are generously giving me office space to complete the work... no strings attached! This also means I'll be living in San Francisco for the first few months of 2016!
One of the things that appealed to Stripe greatly was our work on ActivityPump.
The aim is to get MediaGoblin 1.0 out the door by the end of the retreat (while simultaneously advancing general federation standards work). We can do it! And thank you Stripe for the generous opportunity!

[Updated] Pumpa Faenza Icon
I've updated my previous Pumpa Faenza Icon. Mostly because I wanted a svg version since they scale so much better. ;)

Updated the icon from the Faenza svg source and the pumpkin svg. I'm not great with inkscape but, I think it turned out pretty nice. Not sure why the svg isn't showing the pumpkin in firefox but, it does in inkscape/gimp/dolphin/KDE menu for me.

If anyone familar with inkscape looks at the svg version and sees why it may not be showing the pumpkin layer in firefox (and chromium), let me know. ;)

Oh, hey that looks nice! :-) Maybe I should take it as the official logo for Pumpa? :-) The current logo is nice, but very lo-res.

YES! thanks :D

I've been using the Nexus 7 (the old 2012 model) for a while and I really like it. No need for ugly hacks to jail break it, and Cyanogenmod works like a charm.
I haven't tried the newer Nexus 7 model, though. But check Cyanogenmod forums, it probably works as well.
